Genus consisting of around 10 species of hardy deciduous shrubs and trees native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, commonly known as chestnuts. They are typically grown for their foliage, catkin style flowers and edible chestnut fruits and make good specimen trees. Leaves are simple, oval in shape, around 10-30cm long and 4-10cm wide with pointed, wide toothed margins and shallow waves in between the points.
