    Dietes Overview

    Genus containing 7 evergreen, rhizomatous perennials also termed wood iris, fairy iris, fortnight lily, African iris, Japanese iris and Butterfly iris dependent on region. This genus is naturalised across the world in many locations, but originally it evolved from Africa, Australia and Lorde Howe Island. This genus tends to form clumps and leaves are linear or sword-shaped. Flowers tend to be large, white or yellow and distinctively marked with yellow or purple on their petals near the centre.
