Common Puffball Overview

Lycoperdon perlatum is an edible puffball fungus species in the family Agaricaceae. These mushrooms are quite common but easily confused with that of Scleroderma species, which are highly toxic. Likewise, death caps can appear similar to puffballs initially, but eventually, flatten and open. Puffballs can be found growing in mixed woodland, gardens, pasture, commons and heaths, as well as in along roadsides.
