Kniphofia uvaria is an evergreen perennial with straight, grass-like leaves measuring around 60cm in length. Flowers form from red buds, these are between 3-4cm across, opening to orange blooms, which fade to yellow with age and height down the stem. Typically these are produced at a height of around 1.2m. The cultivar Kniphofia 'Nobilis' has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. It has a longer flower stem, measuring between 1.5-2m in height and a longer flowering period compared to this species, blooming from late summer through autumn.
