Compact Winged Spindle Tree Overview

Euonymus alatus 'Compactus' is a small, spreading, deciduous shrub. Its mid-green leaves turn to a bright red in autumn - when it becomes a real show-stopper! Its small green flowers in summer are followed by red-purple fruits, and it develops prominent corky ridges on the branches. Compact in habit, Euonymus alatus ‘Compactus’ is a smaller and denser variety than Euonymus alatus (species from which it is bred) and is suitable for most garden settings, including small courtyard gardens. It will also make a fine informal hedge. Best planted where it can be appreciated in the autumn months. A low maintenance plant, Winged Spindle - a name it's often known by - likes most well-drained soils and a light prune in early spring, if needed. This cultivar has earned a coveted 'RHS Award of Garden Merit'.
