Blue Wax Flower Overview

Cerinthe major 'Purpurascens' is an unusual plant from the Boraginaceae family, commonly known as Blue Wax Flower or Honeywort after the sweet nectar this plant produces. It produces beautiful blue-green leaves on tall upright stems, typically growing to around 60cm in height. In late spring, small, tubular, purple flowers, which are well-loved by bees, appear, surrounded by blue-purple modified leaf structures, termed bracts. It may be grown as an annual plant in most climates, or as a half-hardy perennial in milder locations. This plant is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
