Alternate-Leaved Butterfly Bush Overview

Buddleja alternifolia is a stunning deciduous shrub species in the Scrophulariaceae family. This plant is also known by the name Alternate-Leaved Butterfly Bush and it may be trained into a tree shape with pruning. Foliage is narrow, and linear, coloured grey-green and leaves are borne alternately on arching branches, leaves measure between 4-10cm in length. Showy lilac-purple, 4-petalled flowers are produced in dense clusters, they are strongly and sweetly scented, perfect for pollinating wildlife! This species has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
