Duchesnea Overview

Genus containing 2 hardy, perennial, sometimes semi-evergreen species that are favoured for their flowers and creeping growth pattern. They make nice ground cover plants and are also well suited to hanging containers. They are often referred to as mock, Indian or false strawberry for their colourful red fruits that resemble strawberries. Producing cheerful yellow flowers, and dark green foliage similar to strawberry plants. This genus was originally from South and East Asia and has been introduced and widely naturalised across many regions including the USA, where it is commonly grown as a medicinal and ornamental plant. Genetic analysis has recently reclassified this genus into Potentilla.
