Alkanet Overview
Genus of around 37 species of annual, biennial or perennial herbaceous plants from the Boraginaceae family, naturally found across Europe, North and South Africa and Western Asia. They have been introduced to the USA. This genus has characteristic bristly hairs covering the plant surface and produces pretty, symmetrical, bright blue-purple flowers with 5 petals that are very popular with bees.
