Osteospermum 'Pink Whirls' is an evergreen sub-shrub cultivar from the Asteraceae family. It typically grows to around 40cm tall, producing lance-shaped leaves with jagged, toothed edges. Flowers are daisy-like in appearance, purple-pink in colour, with blue-purple centres and they measure approximately 5cm in diameter. The petal-like structures, termed ray florets, are interestingly shaped, with a pinched middle widening to a spoon shape at the tip. This species has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
Start indoors, about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in your area. Sow about 0.1 cm deep. They seed themselves freely so there are always plantlets to spread around the garden.
Make cuttings from new growth with a bit of older hard wood attached. Place in soil and it will quickly roots. Keep moist in the beginning!
