Steelpoort spurflower (Eng.), Steelpoort spoorsalie (Afr.)
An erect deciduous shrub growing between 1-2m high with large leathery leaves and purple flowers. Flowering autumn to winter and flowers have a hooded corolla and a long calyx. The Steelpoort spurflower has horizontal tubular roots which help the plant to be drought-resistant. 'Xerophilus' means 'dry-loving' making it a wise choice in water-wise gardens. An attractive drought resistant deciduous shrub that can be placed in semi-shade to full sun.
