Overview

A genus of annual or evergreen perennial plants in the Amaranthaceae family native to tropical zones of the Americas containing 38 recognised species. Commonly cultivated species usually have colourful and veined foliage that gives them the colloquial name bloodleaf. They can be grown under glass or outside during the summer in mild areas, with protection from cold winds.
