Somerset Skullcap Overview

Scutellaria altissima is a perennial species of summer flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae. It is known commonly as Somerset skullcap and has a clumping growth habit. Foliage is oppositely arranged and triangular in shape, with toothed edges. The flowers are bicoloured with pale purple and lilac-blue colouration. They are traditionally used as medicinal plants and are cultivated in gardens for their upright sprays of hooded, 2-lipped, tubular flowers.
