Ice Plant Overview
Lampranthus is a genus of creeping, bushy succulents in the Aizoaceae family native to Southern Africa with more that 200 recognised species. The Aizoaceae family is commonly known by the name ice plants and also known as vygies in South Africa and New Zealand. They inhabit arid areas and are characterised by their unusually large, showy, daisy-like flower heads. Cultivated specimens are best grown as tender bedding plants or in containers that can be protected in winter.
