Chinese Yellow Banana Overview
Musella lasiocarpa is a dwarf banana plant that produces large grey-green leaves and attractive, upright, large, lotus-like, waxy yellow flowers that can last several months. The flowers are surrounded by showy, modified leaves known as bracts. Commonly known by the names Yellow Lotus Banana, Golden Lotus Banana, Chinese Yellow Banana and Chinese Dwarf Banana. This architectural plant provides interest either in containers within conservatories or can be planted outdoors in tropical garden designs. Plant outdoors in a frost-free area in rich, moist but well-drained soil, in sun or part shade. Plant deep, covering the clumping rootstock below ground. Protect from wind and over the winter. It is half-hardy and thus will not survive UK winters outdoors without adequate protection, plant with care.
