Monolena primuliflora Overview

Monolena primuliflora is an interesting perennial plant from the Melastomataceae family. It originates from South America, it may be found growing naturally from Costa Rica to Ecuador and in parts of Brazil. This plant has a lovely tropical feel, grown mainly for the attractively veined, shiny, textured leaves, they emerge red, turning a dark green shade with age, on red stems marked with green. It also produces pretty pink flowers. Termed epiphytic, this plant can grow without soil. Plant in a moist and airy potting medium if growing as a houseplant.
