Karoo Violet Overview

Genus with roughly 24 perennial subshrub species with cushion-forming or tufted growth habits. Most species are woody-based and all are native to Southern and tropical Africa. They produce 5-petalled, dark blue to violet-purple, trumpet-shaped blooms and alternately arranged, simple foliage which is linear, lanceolate or spoon-shaped. These plants are a good water-wise choice for dry gardens and are well planted as groundcover.
