Jewel Orchids Overview

Goodyera is an orchid genus containing around 100 terrestrial species from the Orchidaceae family. These plants are also known as Jewel Orchids as they are typically grown for the leaves rather than the flowers. These plants are found around the world in a wide range of environments, some are hardier than others, particularly compared to other Jewel Orchid genera such as Macodes. They are often cultivated for their dark green, velvety foliage with white venation, the leaf shape and patterning varies across different species. The small flowers are discrete compared to many other cultivated orchids, growing in clusters on upright stems.
