Overview

A genus of around 25-30 species of annual, biennial or herbaceous perennial plants in the Malvaceae family with a wide distribution throughout Africa, Asia and Europe from the tropics to temperate zones. They have palmately divided leaves and 5-petalled salver-shaped flowers in shades of white or pink. Several species are cultivated as garden ornamentals for their attractive Summer flowers. Often grown in wildflower planting schemes, they are short-lived but will self-seed.
