Small genus with less than 5 rhizomatous perennial species from tropical climates in the Andes of South America. Deep bell-shaped flowers with hairy outer surfaces are richly coloured in vibrant shades of pink, red and purple, often mixed with white patterning. Species from this genus are cultivated as both garden plants and occasionally as houseplants.
