Broad-leaved arborvitae Overview
A genus of evergreen conifers in the cypress family with only one member; T. dolobrata, endemic to Japan. The trees are large and conical-shaped with scale-like glossy green leaves arranged in flattened sprays, and often marked with white variegation. There are several cultivars bred for their coloured foliage that are popular as garden trees and in temple gardens in their native Japan.
How to propagate Broad-leaved arborvitae
Seed
You can propagate from seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true).
Cuttings
Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.
