Canavalia Overview

This genus lies in the Fabaceae (Fabaceae) family of legumes, peas and beans, it contains around 70 species which produce pea-like flowers characteristic to the Fabaceae family. These are herbaceous perennial plants or woody twining climbers with foliage divided into groupings of 3 leaflets and showy white and pink-purple flowers. These are borne on unbranched inflorescences and lead onto oblong, green seed pods, containing black, red or white seeds.
