A genus of over 330 perennials and shrubs with branching woody stems and long petioles. They are sometimes grown for their foliage, but mainly for their many flowers, which are clustered, fluffy and pink-white or red in appearance. The leaves are musky-scented, serrated and triangular in shape. Almost half are native to Mexico and two species have become pests in Australia and Taiwan.
