Overview

A genus of around 14 accepted species of biennial or perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the Caryophyllaceae family originating from Europe, Asia and North Africa. They have tubular-shaped flowers often with lobed petals that resemble those of the related Silene genus. Lychnis includes the common wildflower ragged robin and a number of species grown as garden ornamentals.
