STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Absent BRACTS: 2 rows around head, outer leaf-like, inner oval, papery, dark-streaked. FLOWER STALK: Absent; long under heads. SEPALS: 4, bristle-like. PETALS: 5, joined, tubular, lobes equal, rarely very unequal. STAMENS: 5, joined into tube. STIGMA: 1, 2-lobed; style long. OVARY: 1, below petals, 1-celled. SEEDS: 1, not released.
