Malabar Chestnut Overview
Pachira insignis is a tender perennial species that is commonly known as Malabar Chestnut or Wild Chestnut. This plant produces shiny, green, oval leaves and has an arching habit, in its native habitat, it can grow up to 18m tall. Its showy white flowers are often tipped in red, they open like a banana peel to reveal white hair-like stamens, overall flowers have a bottlebrush-like appearance. It can produce edible nuts in large woody pods and these are said to taste like peanuts.
