Pimpinella Overview

A genus of annual, biennial and herbaceous perennial flowering plants in the Apiaceae family. They are characterised by their flat, branched umbels of tiny flowers. Commonly cultivated species include P. anisum, or aniseed, grown for its sweet and aromatic seeds that are used to flavour food. Several species are commonly found in the UK where they inhabit chalk downs, and some are also grown as garden ornamentals with several cultivars available.
