Overview

Also known by the names silktassel and tassel bush, this genus contains approximately 15 evergreen shrubs and trees. They produce showy, petalless, white blooms on catkins. Originating from Mexico, Central America to the Western US and Greater Antilles, this genus is adapted to woodland environments. Species from this genus are widely cultivated for use as garden plants for their pretty catkins and attractive foliage, which is oval to elliptical in shape and leathery.
