Borago is a small genus of hardy, annual and perennial herbaceous plants grown both for their blue, star-shaped, hanging flowers and for culinary purposes. They originate from the Mediterranean and one species, Borago officinalis, commonly referred to as borage or starflower has been widely cultivated worldwide. The stem and leaves are usually hairy and appear reddish in colour, contrasting prettily with the vivid blue, 5 petalled flowers.
