Snake Gourd Overview
Trichosanthes cucumerina var. anguina is an annual climber in the gourd family, Cucurbitaceae. It is an edible, vining plant and it is grown commercially for the fruits, which are consumed as vegetables. It produces fluffy, white flowers which lead onto long, sausage-shaped, sometimes twisting, snake-like fruits, hence the common name Snake Gourd. It is monoecious and thus forms individual male and female flowers on the same plant.
