A genus comprising around 33 species of herbaceous perennial flowering plants in the buttercup family native to North America, Europe and Asia where they are found growing in meadows and prairies. They have finely dissected leaves and nodding bell-shaped flowers that appear in Spring, hence their common name pasque (Easter, Passover) flower. In cultivation they are grown for the attractive and colourful flowers and somewhat wooly or fluffy foliage and are found in alpine houses or rock gardens in full sun.
