Gongoni Grass Overview

Aristida junciformis is a deciduous grass species from the Poaceae family. Native in North America and commonly known as Gongoni Grass or Ngongoni Three-Awn. Aristida junciformis is also known by the names Bristle Grass and Wire Grass. This plant is hardy and water-wise, grow in full sun and well-draining soil. Gongoni Grass grows to around 1 metre tall and the flower plumes are coloured soft mauve. They appear in the summer and are quite attractive. An indigenous alternative to the popular Aristida purpurea is the fast-growing, frost-hardy Aristida junciformis.
