Syzygium Overview
Syzygium is a large genus containing around 1,188 evergreen shrubs and trees. These plants are usually grown for their attractive overall appearance and flower buds which when dried, are used as a common kitchen spice called Cloves. They possess leathery, glossy, aromatic foliage and produce flowers with 5 small petals, which appear fluffy due to a number of long stamens, usually coloured red, pink, yellow or white. These lead on to fleshy red, purple or white berries.
