Society Garlic Overview
Plants in the genus Tulbaghia are found mainly in South Africa. They are bulbous semi-evergreen perennials from the Amaryllidaceae family. Flowering occurs in the summer, these plants produce umbels of small star-shaped blooms. On bruising their leaves, they produce an onion-like scent, hence they are commonly known by the name Society Garlic. They grow best in full sun, well-drained soil and need winter protection.
