Polianthes Overview
A genus of tuberous perennial flowering plants in the Asparagaceae family endemic to Mexico. They have narrow lance-shaped leaves and sturdy upright stems with racemes of sometimes double, trumpet-shaped often fragrant flowers. They include P. tuberosa, commonly known as tuberose, used in the perfume industry. They are popular as houseplants but can be grown outside in warmer climates as long as they have protection from winter wet - the rhizomes are usually lifted and stored in a dry, cool and dark place until Spring.
