Helianthus is a genus of around 70 species of sturdy annual or perennial plants from the Asteraceae family. They are commonly known by the name Sunflower, these plants originate from North and South America, producing with simple leaves and daisy-like composite flower heads. The genus includes varieties grown as food crops for humans and domesticated animals and birds and popular garden annuals, such as H. annuus, the common sunflower, grown for its large, showy heads of florets that resemble the sun’s face, atop tall, sturdy stems.
