Purslanes Overview

The genus Portulaca, also known as Purslanes, contains around 109 fleshy annuals and perennial species with pretty flowers that respond to sunlight, opening in sunshine and closing when shaded. Flowers are cup-shaped and similar to those of roses, with 4-7 petals and there are a wide range of colours. Grow in full sun and well-draining soil. Some species in this genus are considered invasive and others are consumed as food, they may be cooked or eaten raw.
