Golden larch Overview
A monotypic genus of one species of deciduous conifer tree in the pine family native to Eastern China where it is found in mountainous regions. Also known as golden larch, P. amabilis has a conical habit when immature, but more spreading as it grows and the soft light green needles turn a bright golden-yellow in the Autumn. It grows well in Mediterranean regions but does less well in the colder parts of the UK. However, given a sheltered warm position and lime=free soil it can thrive, but will grow slowly.
How to propagate Golden larch
Propagation is seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true).
Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.
