The herbaceous Tropaeolums are commonly known as nasturtiums and they can be annual or perennial and have many different growth habits; climbing, twining, trailing or bushy. They are native to South and Central America and many plants in the genus have bright, showy flowers and are popular as ornamental and culinary plants and in companion planting alongside edible crops to repel insect pests and attract beneficial insects.
