Giant Redwood Overview
Sequoiadendron giganteum is the sole species in the Sequoiadendron genus. It is a huge, hardy, evergreen, coniferous tree originating from mountainous habitats. It's also commonly known by the names Giant Sequoia and Giant Redwood. This species is only found in one wild location naturally, the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Foliage is small and reduced to overlapping wedge-shaped needles and this species is typically grown for its impressive stature, growing to an average height of 50-85m, with a trunk diameter of around 6-8m.
