Avocado Overview
Persea americana is a bushy, evergreen tree species in the laurel family. It produces attractive rounded, glossy, lance-shaped foliage and is typically grown for the edible, spherical to pear-shaped fruits, termed Avocados or Avocado Pears which contain a single big seed in the centre. Flowers are non-showy, coloured green-yellow and measure approximately 0.5-1cm across. This plant is grown commercially in tropical and Mediterranean climates around the world and it's unlikely to flower or fruit in temperate climes. Capable of growing over 20m in height, leaves are alternately arranged on stems, measuring between 12-25cm in length.
