Queen lily Overview
Genus containing herbaceous perennials originating from warmer regions in Southeast Asia, India, China, Australia and New Guinea. Some of the 93 described species are now widely naturalised to other continents including Africa, Central America and multiple oceanic islands worldwide. They are typically grown for their patterned foliage and interesting 3-petalled flowers surrounded by showy bracts. Species in this genus tend to have thick-rooted aromatic underground rhizomes and include the culinary plant turmeric.
