Genus consisting of 25 hardy, deciduous shrubs and trees typically grown for their scented, yellow and attractive clusters of around 6-20 bell-shaped flowers on short stalks hanging from unbranched stems called racemes. This genus is categorised in the hazel family, Hamamelidaceae and originates from Eastern Asia. Many of the species are restricted in location to woodland habitats in Korea, Japan, China and the Himalayas.
