Evergreen perennial species that produces rosettes of strap-shaped foliage measuring approximately 60cm in length. Leaves are grey-green in colour and strongly banded with dark green to red-brown colourations. Flowers are borne on erect spikes, these are tubular, coloured yellow and surrounded by showy red modified leaves known as bracts.
