Bluebell Overview

Hyacinthoides is a genus of 12 species of bulbous perennial flowering plants in the Asparagaceae family. They are native to the Mediterranean basin with one, H. non-scripta, or the English bluebell found further north in parts of Northwestern Europe. They have clumps of strap-shaped leaves and bell-shaped or star-shaped usually blue flowers in Spring. H. non-scripta is a common sight in UK woodlands and is cultivated in naturalistic garden planting schemes.
