Rudbeckia hirta 'Prairie Sun' is an erect biennial that is better grown as an annual due to its intolerance of cold, wet winters. This cultivar typically grows to between 60-80cm tall, spreading up to 50cm wide. It produces bristly foliage and classic golden-yellow daisy-like flowers with green centres. These have a golden-orange ring extending to around half the petal length and are yellow at the tips. Flowers are borne over a long period of time, from summer through to autumn, and are attractive to pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies.
