Goldfish Plant Overview
The genus Nematanthus lies in the Gesneriaceae family and contains around 35 species; these plants are native to Brazil where they grow as epiphytes. They are perennials or evergreen sub-shrubs with succulent stems and a trailing, branching habit which makes them suitable as indoor hanging basket plants in cultivation. Their unusual fish-shaped, orange flowers attract hummingbirds in the wild, giving them the common name “goldfish plant”.
