Heart-Leaf Philodendron 'Brazil' Overview

Philodendron hederaceum 'Brazil' is an attractive, evergreen perennial cultivar in the Araceae family. It was developed from the species Philodendron hederaceum, which was historically known as Philodendron scandens; however this name is now considered a synonym and is no longer commonly used. Philodendron Brazil may reach up to 1.2m in height. It has slim, heart-shaped, glossy green leaves splashed with irregular yellow-gold colouring. These are produced on trailing stems and this cultivar is attractive as a hanging plant. It can also have a climbing habit: provide a moss pole to encourage this form of growth. Mature plants may produce green-white flowers arranged in spathe structures. This tender species should be positioned in partial to shaded light, in well-draining, moist soil, high in organic matter for optimal growth. Originating from Mexico, Central America, South America and parts of the Caribbean, this tropical plant is a commonly grown houseplant in many areas, including the UK. Toxic to both humans and pets. Can also be a skin irritant.
