Overview

Medinilla is an Old World genus native to the tropics of Africa, Madagascar, Southern Asia and the Western Pacific islands. It contains around 377 species from the Melastomataceae family. They are evergreen shrubs and climbers bearing simple, tough leaves and showy drooping sprays of flowers in shades of red, pink, white or orange and with unusual pink bracts. These plants are best grown as container specimens under glass in high humidity and with shade from hot sun.
