ZZ Plant Overview
Zamioculcas is a genus from East Africa, that contains only one species, Zamioculcas zamiifolia. This plant has a short, thick rhizome with succulent leaf-stalks that bear leaflets. These may be shed during periods of prolonged drought. It is widely grown as a houseplant due to its attractive, shiny, dark green leaves, its tolerance of low light levels, and for its air-purifying qualities. Small, non-showy flowers coloured yellow-brown appear from mid-summer to early autumn. Foliage toxic if ingested and can irritate eyes and skin on contact.
